In this course, students will learn what sociology is and what
diverse subjects sociologists study. By the end of the course,
students will be able to identify major sociological theories of
Marx, Durkheim, and Weber as well as use sociological thinking to
analyze topics such as race, the family, poverty, gender, human
sexuality, religion, culture, and so on. Students will also learn to
critically evaluate issues and statistics as they are presented in
the media. Overall, the goal of this class is to allow individuals
to get a basic understanding of what sociology is and how it can
enrich their view of social issues that affect them.
