Are you ready to pull up stakes and head for greener pastures? Have
you ever wanted to close up shop and hit road? If so, you are not
alone. The character of the wanderer has wended its way through world
literature since its beginnings. But what leads the wanderer to leave
home in the first place? Is the wanderer in search of adventure, a
better life, or a broader experience of life? What does the wanderer
learn moving from place to place? Are wanderers ever able to return
home again, or are they doomed to remain permanent outsiders? These
are some of the questions that this course will address as it pursues
the character of the wanderer around the world, from ancient mythology
to the modern world of individual exploration.

This course is open to all undergraduates and fulfills the COAS,
School of Business, and some School of Education composition
requirements when taken in conjunction with W143. For COAS, C146
(offered spring semester) is also required.
