This is an introductory course in literary interpretation required of
Comparative Literature majors and recommended for other students
interested in the study of literature.  The course will acquaint the
student with basic methods and concepts of criticism through close
reading of texts (poetry, drama, and fiction).  The final grade will
be based on three papers (3-4, 4-5, and 6-8 pages long), quizzes, and
short written assignments.  No examinations.
