A demonstration of how the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis embodies the
proposition that foreign languages are not simply elaborate codes for
English.  This course will bring alive the long-postponed apologia
for why we study a foreign language.  We will see how the Sapir-Whorf
hypothesis fits into daily life by highlighting the contrasts in the
categories of the native language and the “foreign” language.
