Folklore | Introduction to Folklore in the US

This class looks at folklore and traditional expressive behavior in
the United States by focusing on creativity in everyday life.  We
will study examples of traditional arts, ideas, and practices of folk
groups in the United States, including ethnic, occupational,
regional, and religious groups.  Classes will focus on specific
genres of folklore, utilizing video, slides, and audio recordings.
Some of the topics of the class include urban legends, fairytales,
personal narratives, body art, car art, and yard art among other
examples of urban expressive culture.

Fulfills a COAS Arts and Humanities, Traditions and Ideas
distribution requirement.
