French and Italian | Masterpieces of Italian Literature I

The focus of this course is the literature of Medieval and Renaissance
Italy. Its goal is to read some of Italy's most representative works,
to understand them in their diverse historical contexts, and to
develop a critical approach to literary texts. Dante, Petrarch,
Boccaccio, Machiavelli and Guicciardini will be among the authors
considered. Students will write short essays during the term,
participate in an oral presentation, and take a final exam. The class
will be conducted in Italian. A reader will be available. Prerequisite
is FRIT M250; M307 fulfills A & H and CSA requirements
