S450 "Don Quijote"   (3 credits)           LITERATURE
Prerequisites: Must have completed two of the following:  S331, S332,
S333

This course explores the complex and manifold fictional worlds of
Miguel de Cervantes's "Don Quijote," Parts I and II.  Through a
complete reading of  one of the world's most influential pieces of
imaginative prose writing, we will investigate the interplay between
this masterpiece, the socio-historical worlds of Golden Age Spain, and
the questions of human existence; literary tradition and
self-consciousness in art; and the critical reception of the work.

3) DON QUIJOTE DICTIONARY (compiled by Tom Lathrop)

Evaluation:
Midterm Exam: 20%
Final Exam: 25%
Written & Oral Assignments: 30%
Active participation/preparedness: 25%

The course will be conducted in Spanish.
