Methods of Teaching College Spanish

This course focuses on a task-based, communicative approach to
classroom language instruction. In addition to exploring "how" to
teach, we will address the more important question, "How do language
learners learn language?" The principal readings are "Making
Communicative Language Teaching Happen" and "Tasks and Communicating
in Language Classrooms." In addition to the fundamental concepts and
ideas presented in these works, participants will also read a series
of articles (available in a coursepack) that demonstrates the
evolution of certain concepts and/or current debate of issues. Among
the topics included in the readings are: teaching culture, technology
and learning, instructing heritage speakers.

Evaluation will include: oral presentations of assigned materials,
short essays, unit exams and class observations.
