COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this course is to examine the fundatmentals of helath
promotion. Students will have the unique opportunity to explore
concepts of personal health from both theoretical and practical
perspectives which have a direct effect on the quality of life.
COURSE EVALUATION:
Required:
1. Two exams at 100 points each 200 points
2. Reaction to gues speaker
(need to write 4 speakers) 40 points
3. Other activities assigned in class 20 points
4. Attendance 20 points
TOTAL POINTS POSSIBLE 20 points
BRIEF COURSE OUTLINE:
Students will have an opportunity to discuss the fundamentals of the
following topics: Introduction to Health, Health Care in the U.S.
and Canada, Mental and Emotional Health, Stress and Stress
Management, Alternative Medicine, Physical Fitness, Nutrition and
Weight Control, Cardiovascular Diseases, Stroke, Heart Diseases,
Cancer, Environmental Health, Death and Dying. Several guest
speakers wil be invited for the following topics: Impact of Drinking
and Driving, Sexuality, Pregnancy, Contraception.
