Purpose: (1) To orient you to major developmental changes in the
language of children between five and twelve years old; (2) To
introduce you to the idea that language processing problems are at
the root of what we call "language disorders."; (3) To provide you
with the information you need to assess children's ability to use
language to learn -- specifically, children's abilities in areas of
Phonological awareness, Narrative skills, Understanding of text
conventions; (4) To help you understand how to begin to plan
intervention in the areas of language listed above.
