Seminar 0078 9:30-10:45a TR

Using methods and theories from anthropology and folklore, the class combines history, popular culture, and propaganda to understand how the concepts of war and pacifism have evolved in the United States from World War Two to the present day. Films, posters, buttons, songs, symbols, gatherings and protest marches, personal narratives, poems, literature, photography, and many other forms will be examined as they are used by individuals and groups on both sides of the debate. The format will be seminar: students will actively discuss and engage the material in class.
