This course, taught in French, is an introduction to literary
analysis. We will read stories and short novels by Balzac, (Le Colonel
Chabert), Mérimée (Carmen), Flaubert (Un Coeur simple), Gide (La
Symphonie pastorale), Camus (L'Hôte ), and Beckett (L'Expulsé); a
modern play by Sartre (Huis Clos); and short lyric poems from the 19th
and 20th centuries.  Students will be asked to write three short
papers (2 versions each) and take a final exam.
