TOPIC: RUSSIAN THOUGHT IN THE EUROPEAN CONTEXT

This course will adopt a comparative approach to the study
of Russian thought in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, as it
developed in the European context.  Readings will be drawn from both
the writings of Western (predominantly French and German) and
Russian thinkers.  We will be reading these works in an effort to
understand the mutual influence of Russian and West European thought
and hence the impact of the West on Russia and vice versa.  Russian
language skills are helpful but not necessary.
