TOPIC: IMAGINATION, LITERATURE, AND THE AMERICAN CIVIL WAR

This seminar will explore the literary imagination of the Civil War,
1861-1900, looking especially at men and women who wrote on the
boundary between memoir and fiction. We will look at writing by
ordinary soldiers, generals, hospital workers, freedpeople, women at
home, journalists, and poets.

There will be short weekly reviews or response papers on readings,
and a final term project.
