Students must also register for one discussion section.

This course introduces graduate students to the basic tools and
techniques of formal linguistic analysis. Students will learn the
practical techniques and abstract linguistic concepts necessary to
perform phonological, morphological, and syntactic analysis, using
English and other languages. Phonetics and semantics are also
discussed as they relate to these three core areas. While the course
emphasizes analytical methods and problem solving, these tools are
developed within a theoretical context.
