Linguistics | Seminar in Syntax
L714 | 3331 | Dr. H. Lee

This course addresses two prominent interface phenomena in Korean
linguistics, namely, the licensing of anaphors and the
characterization of polarity and free choice. The adopted viewpoint
is that these dependencies are determined by various interface
conditions of different sorts. The following topics will be covered:

-The distribution of anaphors, with special reference to the
differences between Korean and English

-The truth conditional interpretation of reflexives and reciprocals,
together with the role of context

-The distribution of NPIs, with special reference to the differences
between Korean and English

-The characterization of free choice with respect to negative polarity

This course presupposes some familiarity with the Principles and
Parameters approach and Minimalism and recent developments in model-
theoretic semantics and dynamic semantics.
