Living-Learning Center | Human Rights in Latin American Media
L220 | 1079 | Sorensen
In this course, we will look at Latin America as an example of how
the media can be used to expose human rights violations, raise
awareness of the national and international community, and call for
justice and social change. We will focus primarily on documentary
film, but we also will consider feature films, television, radio,
print journalism, music, and the internet. During the semester we
will learn about styles and techniques of documentary films as well
as recent history, politics and culture in Latin America. In
addition, we will look at the newly developing international court
system for crimes against humanity and how the media can play a role
in what happens in these courts.
