This course is designed to acquaint students with major issues in
the design of sociological research and the collection of relevant
data.  The course covers broad issues in research design--e.g., the
purposes of research, causality, temporality--as well as general
issues in measurement and specific data collection procedures.  We
will read classic and contemporary methodological writings, and read
and critique empirical research.
