Social Work | Emergence of Social Welfare Services

This course examines the evolution of social welfare policies and
programs in response to human needs and social problems as related to
economic, political and social conditions. Through this examination,
students acquire knowledge of the prevailing, social, political,
ideological, and economic contexts that gave rise to the various
social welfare policies and programs that have evolved.  In addiiton,
the students acquire knowledge of manifest and latent functions of
social welfare organizations' activities, their relationship to each
other, and the recurrent themes and issues in social welfare service
delivery.  In addition, the interrelationship and sources of conflict
between the evolving profession of social work and social welfare
services are explored.
