Communication and Culture | Speech Composition
C323 | 25677 | Prof. William E. Wiethoff

This is a COAS Intensive Writing class (see professor)
Fulfills COAS A & H distribution requirement

C323 introduces you to the principles and techniques of
speechwriting, the art of writing speeches for delivery by a
client. You will be introduced to speechwriting teamwork during
class meetings in which you revise and improve portions of actual
speeches. Also, in three assignments working as a member of a
speechwriting team, you will improve your skills in remediation,
education, and motivation. To earn W333 Intensive Writing credit,
each member of the team also composes a preliminary draft of each
speech. Then the entire team composes a final draft in
consultation with a C323 student-client. As a client yourself, you
will inspect a speech written for you, deliver this speech in class,
and evaluate your speechwriting team in a formal memorandum to the
instructor. Ultimately, you will individually write a speech for
delivery by a student-client in Z402, a senior-level management
course in the Kelley School of Business.
