SECOND EIGHT WEEKS
*This course satisfies A&H and CS requirements.

Beginning with selections from Freud's Interpretation of Dreams and
Joyce's Finnegans Wake, we shall be reading in rapid succession
major works by Proust, Woolf, Eliot, Kafka, Stevens, Calvino,
Bernhard, and John Ashbery.  Topics to be discussed include memory
and history, the nature of literary language, temporal relativity,
and the relation of truth and fiction.

Written work: two short papers and a take-home final.
