This is the capstone seminar for majors and minors in Folklore and
Ethnomusicology, and an advanced seminar for students in other
departments who are approved for the course. The primary objective is
to provide an opportunity for students to build upon knowledge
learned through individual courses and to apply that knowledge in a
sustained project of significant intellectual and/or practical
value. Students will meet together in a seminar setting to discuss
their projects and relevant theories and methods. Although students
will be assigned a common core of readings (which will include topics
such as techniques for research, writing, and other modes of
presentation), the bulk of the semester's work will be specific to
each student's individual project. Students also will complete a
portfolio of their work to date, with an eye toward future
educational and career plans.
