HISP-S 332 The Hispanic World II    (3 credits)
Prerequisite:  S331 or equivalent

This course is an introduction to the critical reading of the
literature and film of Spain. Not only will the course familiarize
you with some important Spanish texts, but it will also
help you learn the critical vocabulary needed to analyze and
communicate your ideas effectively about these. We will read
representative works from the main genres of literature: prose
fiction, theater and poetry. Selections include a novella by
Unamuno (San Manuel Bueno Mártir), a drama by Federico García Lorca
(La casa de Bernarda Alba), numerous poems, and two films. Some of
the themes we will take up over the semester are love, religion,
family and gender. The grade for the course will be based on active
class participation, short written and oral assignments, and two
exams.

The course will be conducted in Spanish. Credit given for only two
of the following:  S331, S332, S333
