This course will begin with the period just before the arrival of
Europeans and Africans to the Americas and continue into the middle
of the nineteenth century.  Lectures will be interpretative rather
than narrative and examine ideas, movements, and social-cultural
concerns current during the period under consideration.

Absences will count against your grade.  Two or more unexcused
absences will drop your final grade one grade.
