Collins Living-Learning Center | A Trip through 1929 Germany
L220 | 7925 | Mills

This course provides an introduction to German culture and society by taking
students on a journey through a single year on the timeline: 1929. Transpiring
ten years after the signing of the “treaty of Versailles, and ten years before the
Second World War, 1929 offers a unique and fascinating opportunity to take a
plunge into Weimar Germany, exploring such diverse topics as music and
cabaret, sexual mores, anti-Semitism, political art and propaganda, the
representation of war, the Great Depression, the rise of National Socialism,
and life in the metropolis, We will focus on socio-political ambiguity instead of
viewing matters in black and white. We will end with a similar exploration of
the USA in 1999.
