About half of this course is devoted to basic logic, which is an
indispensable tool for critical thinking. Then we would discuss some
issues related to logic and rationality in science, ethics and
religion. This course requires no pre-requisite. The textbook is
Patrick J. Hurley’s A Concise Introduction to Logic, 8th ed.
(Belmont, CA: Wadsworth, 2000). Other readings will be available on
e-reserve. There will be homework assignments, quizzes, and final
