Course Format: Lecture: 9:30A-10:45A, TR, JH A105 plus a four hour
laboratory. Two Saturday field trips are required.

Course requirements: P: Biol L311 or S311. Above section COAS
Intensive Writing section and also requires registration in COAS W333.

Course Description: The course will focus primarily on the process of
evolution, in an attempt to understand the ways in which species
change over time. Fundamental processes of evolution, including
natural selection, migration, mutation and drift will be explored
from theoretical and empirical perspectives. Population genetic,
phylogenetic and strategic approaches to understanding and predicting
biodiversity will be covered.

Required Text: Freeman and Herron, “Evolutionary Analysis”, second
edition.

Weekly Assignments: TBA

Exams/Papers: Two midterms and final exam. One large term paper and
one presentation.
