R 408 / R 508	Contemporary Art Issues & Cultural Themes (3 cr.)

This seminar addresses some of the theories, critical ideas and
methods in art and critical theory. Issues covered range from
traditional investigations of aesthetics, Modernism, Postmodernism
and beyond. Connections are made between ideas, theories, and
practice as it shows up in the work of various 20th century
artists. Emphasis is on how issues in philosophy, art history and
criticism, and visual culture can be used by the artist to
understand not only the contemporary climate in the art world, but
his or her own work.
