The object of the course is to give an introduction to Old Icelandic
language and literature. The focus will be on linguistic aspects
(phonology, morphology, and syntax), with sidelights to the literary
and mythological traditions. Select passages from E. V. Gordon, An
Introduction to Old Norse will be translated and serve as a background
for the lectures. The final grades will be based on class
participation, a midterm, a final, and an oral presentation.
