This introductory course presumes no previous knowledge of world
history.  We shall examine some of the momentous changes that took
place in the first half of the century and which affected people
worldwide.  Topics include:  the expansion and contraction of the
great powers; war and peace; nationalism; imperialism;
industrialization; socialism; feminism; and fascism.  Selected
readings from descriptive and analytical studies, biographies, and
novels.  Three exams and short assignments.
