No previous knowledge of African history necessary.  This course
introduces students to Africa, its peoples, and the civilizations
they created. Topics include the environment; African political,
economic and social systems; history; music, art and literature;
Africa in the world. The students will be assigned a variety of
readings (texts, novels, translations of oral traditions, etc). Three
exams and a few short written assignments. Satisfies Sub-Saharan
culture requirements.
