The objectives of this course are to understand anatomical and
physiologic changes subsequent to acute or chronic tracheotomy, and
partial or total removal of the larynx. The course reviews current
research and developments in the field. It applies information
concerning the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of these
types of patients. In addition, students will be become familiar with
airway management techniques, mechanical ventilation, and fitting and
maintenance of endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes, one way speaking
valves, and tracheo-esophageal prosthesis.
