American Studies | Sexuality Education in the United States
G751 | 13902 | Goodman

This seminar will explore the history of sexuality education in the
United States. The seminar will conduct content analyses of various
sex education programs, textbooks, and films. Particular attention
will be paid to notions of adolescent sexuality and schooling in the
context of the increasingly sexually oriented popular culture of
society. We will also study the socio-political struggles over sex
education and how these confrontations fit into the broader
ideological battles that have taken place in the United States
during the last century. Jointly offered with EDUC-J762
