Introduction to
Contemporary Literary Studies

This is a time of staggering changes in the field of humanities,
resulting in calls for increasing interdisciplinary methods and
protocols. This seminar will examine the key texts, tendencies, and
positions in contemporary critical and literary theories from both
comparative and paradigmatic perspectives: New Criticism,
Historicism, Marxism, Frankfurt School, Deconstruction and
Poststructuralism, Feminism, Postcolonialism, and so on. Students
will be called upon to make presentations on key topics throughout
the semester. Authors include but are not limited to Appiah, Brecht,
Bourdieu, Culler, Descartes, Eagleton, Foucault, Hall, Kermode,
Mohanty, Ngugi, Said, and Spivak.
