Advanced Finite Element Seminar (2 cr.) P: G582 or permission of
instructor. This 2 credit course will focus on advanced topics in
finite element analysis of geologic problems. Topics covered will
include development and application of two- and three-dimensional
models of groundwater flow, heat, and solute mass transport within
crustal rocks, development of triangular and tetrahedral shape
functions, serendipity elements, evolving grids, parallel computing,
and the modified method of characteristics. Class will include a
series of homework exercise and program development (in matlab). We
will also use a three-dimensional finite element model(geofe)
developed by the instructor.
