This course will examine dramatic texts of playwrights - Africa to
Australia - whose art , identity and culture have been impacted by
the colonial encounter. We will uncover the resistance, annihilation
and desire conveyed through theatrical literature. We will
penetrate the notion of colonial modernity, nature of colonial
nationalism and the forging of postcolonial identities. From this,
we will forge an understanding of the political and social factors
that govern the production of these works.
