LSTU-L 390 Strikes in the 1990s, Class Numbers 22359, 1 cr., Class
meets Thursday, 5:45-8:25 pm, SW007, November 2, 9, 16, 30 and
December 7. This class meets with LSTU-L 290, same title.
This course examines major strikes and lockouts at Pittston,
Firestone/Bridgestone, A.E. Staley, the Detroit Newspapers, Hormel,
and United Parcel Service.  The course analyzes these recent labor-
management conflicts as a vehicle to discuss the changing U.S. and
global economy and the impact on workers and unions; corporate
strategies to break strikes; labor strategies such as corporate
campaigns and non-violent civil disobedience; the future of labor-
management cooperation; and evolving public attitudes toward
