Class meets second eight weeks only

This course is designed to help students explore the relationship
between various forms and sources of information and citizensí
political behavior. We will also consider how we evaluate and
understand that relationship. To that end, students will consider
topics including: citizen capacity to traverse the new sources of
information in a critical and effective manner, the implications of
getting our information from various sources, including the types of
bias and incentives each may face, the influence of changes in media
consumption on political participation, and how changes in the media
(such as style and consumption patterns) affect conceptions of
citizenship. Students will evaluate media coverage of current events
in order to consider the differences between various types of
coverage, and the implications of the same.
