This is a course in the history of physical anthropology. We will
discuss the emergence of this field as an academic discipline,
emphasizing the careers of prominent scholars and their contributions
to theory. Graduate students are expected to complete all
requirements for the associated undergraduate course. Final papers
should examine the career of a physical anthropologist active prior to
WWII whose work relates to the student's research interests. Prepare a
critical review focusing on one or more theoretical issues in your
subject's work that is suitable for submission to the journal Current
Anthropology.
