COLL-S 104 The Archaeology of Sex (Alt) (S&H) (3 cr.)

How people lived and related to each other is an important part of archaeological inquiry. Sex is an important part of human experience. In the present, we tend to view sex as a private and natural part of human interaction. Sex is often presented as a biological function, necessary, and enjoyable. We may all recognize that people have different ideas about sex and sexuality, and that such things are often culturally motivated, but to what extent can sex and sexuality be affected by culture and tradition? What evidence is there for sexual practices and beliefs in the past?
