11:15a-12:30p MWF (25 students) 3 cr. A&H, IW.

The goal of L205 is to introduce students to the art of poetry. To
that end, in this class you will have the opportunity to learn and
practice strategies for reading and studying poetry that represents
a wide range of historical periods and a variety of literary
conventions and techniques. At the same time, because this section
has been designated as “writing intensive,” you will also receive
instruction in and opportunities to practice strategies for writing
about poetry. Writing assignments will include a number of
relatively informal “first passes,” several microthemes, a critical
essay, and a critical review, as well as six unannounced quizzes and
a final exam.
