This course aims to immerse students in the literature of the
Romantic era, a period that saw political revolutions, world war,
the rise of industrialization and the invention of Literature. The
course will be built around studentís individual research: first,
into major authors of the period (Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge,
Byron, Keats, Austen, Scott, and the Shelleys, Mary and Percy);
second, into intersections between British Romanticism and a larger
world of concerns: abolition, imperialism, world history, the status
of the human. How does this literature situate itself in the world?
And what does that world look like?
