The focus of this course is the literature of Medieval and
Renaissance Italy. Its goal is to read some of Italy’s most
representative works, to understand them in their specific contexts,
and to develop a historical and critical approach to literary texts.
Dante, Petrarch, Boccaccio, Machiavelli and Guicciardini will be
among the authors considered. Students will write three short essays
during the term, participate in an oral presentation, take five
quizzes and a final exam. The class will be conducted in Italian. A
reader will be available.
