HISP-S 412 Spanish America: The Cultural Context (3 credits)CULTURE
Prerequisite: S331 or equivalent
This course studies the cultural production in Latin America during
the 20th century in the context of violent political conflicts. We
will focus on three specific historical moments: the Mexican
Revolution and its projection in the Institutionalized Revolutionary
Party and (PRI); the Cuban Revolution of 1959; and the Southern Cone
dictatorships of the 1970s and 1980s. We will examine a diverse
range of artistic works Żnovels, short stories, essays, and films.
Evaluation will be based on presentations, writing assignments,
quizzes, and a final paper.
