This course will explore the single most important event shaping our
21st century: the collapse of communism in Europe in 1989-91. We
will learn about the communist system, the rise of opposition, and
the course of the revolutions in Eastern Europe and the Soviet
Union. Also discussed will be the revolutions' aftermath, including
the wars in Yugoslavia.
