now one of the largest nations in Europe. Covers the entire history
of Ukraine, but emphasis is placed on the modern period. Examines
issues of national identity and national consciousness and explores
the place of Ukraine in Russian and European history. Some
knowledge of Russian/(East) European history is helpful, but not
required. Combines lecture and discussion. Requirements include
regular attendance, a mid-term exam, and a final exam or essay.
