L220 | 10895 | --

LSTU-L 220 Grievance Representation Class Number 10895; 3 cr. This
class meets August 20 – December 15, 2008.  This is a practical
course that examines how a union steward represents workers on the
job, including how to investigate, write, and negotiate grievances,
and how to utilize the law to defend workers’ rights on the job.
Using case studies, we will discuss how a steward would respond to
common grievances such as insubordination, absenteeism, seniority,
and racial and sexual harassment. The course will explore effective
organizing tools – collective action around grievances, contract
campaigns, and work-to-rule campaigns – which mobilize the
membership to win grievances and strong contract agreements.
