Political Science | American Political Controversies
Y100 | 12590 | Heuer

Full semester
Y100 is about exploring and familiarizing oneself with some
current public policy debates facing citizens in the United States.
Some topics this class will contemplate include controversies
surrounding capital punishment, abortion, gay rights, and gun
control. The primary goal of this class is to understand the
importance of logical argumentation on matters of public policy.
With each issue, the roots of the debate and the development of the
conflict over time will be identified. By considering arguments on
each side of the issue and critiquing the logic of each argument,
the class is designed to equip the students with skills to become
more discerning citizens and better consumers of political
information.
