design of sociological research, and the collection and analysis of
relevant data. We will consider general issues in research design
the role of theory, causal claims, experimental v. non-experimental
strategies, the identification and selection of cases, measurement,
research ethics as well as issues that pertain to specific data
collection and analysis procedures. By its nature, this course
provides an overview of several topics rather than in-depth coverage
of a few.
