Topic: Content and Behavior
By systematically investigating media messages for patterns in
narrative and visual content, researchers often come to valuable
insights about the construction and maintenance of reality. This
seminar will offer instruction on the methodological procedure of
content analysis and invite discussion of this methodís theoretical
underpinnings and place among other quantitative methods as well as
cultural studies approaches to research.
This seminar will also offer an opportunity to conduct content
analysis research. A considerable portion of the semester will be
dedicated to developing proposals from students in the class into
group research projects. The goal is to submit the completed
projects to conferences and/or academic journals.
